Bikram Yoga Studio
A Bikram yoga studio is designed according to very specific standards. Typically, all of the certified Bikram yoga studios must meet very specific criteria for temperature, humidity and even décor to be officially called a Bikram yoga studio.
Temperature and Humidity
The temperature and humidity are both very important factors which distinguish Bikram yoga studios from other studios. Typically, the temperature of a Bikram yoga studio is 105 degrees Fahrenheit and has 40% humidity.
These features allow students to become more flexible and to remove toxins from the body through intensive sweating. The combination of heat and humidity are also used to reduce the pain associated with chronic conditions such as arthritis or old injuries.
Flooring
The flooring in a Bikram yoga studio is made with anti-microbial materials so you will not have to worry about others perspiration being in your area. The floors are also thoroughly cleaned after each Bikram yoga studio. The floors are also slightly cushioned so that you will be comfortable even standing in your yoga pose for an extended period of time.
Amenities
The amenities offered in a Bikram yoga studio include showers, lounges and areas for meditation and study. Bikram yoga along with other types of yoga incorporate other areas of study into the program.
There are also plenty of large rooms for practicing your poses in a Bikram yoga studio. Some studios are large enough to hold several hundred participants while others are more intimate and hold only twenty to fifty students.
Opening a Bikram Yoga Studio
If you want to open your own Bikram yoga studio then you will need to obtain a certificate from a certified Bikram yoga school. The classes are nine weeks long and require a mandatory on campus stay. The approximate cost of classes is $8,000. After you have obtained your certificate allowing you to teach Bikram yoga you will need to have a studio that meets the specific specifications outline by the creator of Bikram yoga. The studio will need to be able to be heated to the appropriate temperature and have a source for humidity installed as a basic requirement.
Studio Specifications
You will also need plenty of space to open a Bikram yoga studio. It is important to have enough room for your students especially since everyone is very warm and perspires while holding their yoga postures.
You will also need to consider having the appropriate flooring since germs can live easily in the warm, humid environment that is used in Bikram yoga. Most Bikram yoga studios have anti-microbial flooring which can be cleaned frequently. Opening your own Bikram yoga studio is a dream for many yoga students but it does require some planning and training.
